New Specs
Once a year I have to go in for my eye exam and I always feel too pressured to pick out a new pair of glasses while I'm there. I've worn glasses since 2002. I hated them at first - they were an accessory I wasn't interested in wearing and they gave me headaches for the first two months. Now that I've been wearing them for close to a decade I really don't mind them at all. Plus it is a fun way to change up my look.

Friend Friday - Body Image
Every blogger that posts outfit photos must deal with body image. This weeks installment of Friend Friday questions deal with just that - Body Image! I'm going to be honest on these ones and I will speak candidly. So here we go...
1. Since you started blogging has your image of yourself changed?
I wouldn't say that my body image has gotten better or suffered since I started blogging. More than anything I'm learning what works for my body type.
2. Are you self-conscious about any aspect of yourself? If so, do you go out of your way to avoid it or do you post it/talk about it anyway?
Heck yeah I'm self conscious about aspects of my body - who isn't? I love talking about what went wrong with my outfit. This isn't me being down on myself. I'm hoping that when I acknowledge something that doesn't look right, some other person with a similar hang-up can learn right along with me. Some of my favorite bloggers will mention their personal body issues and how they dress in a way that doesn't emphasize those "problem" areas. If I mention that I have a healthy backside, I'm not doing so to talk trash about my body. I bring it up so that other gals with the JLo booty can see what works and what might not work as well!
3. Based on how you are feeling now, what do you think the future holds in the evolution of your body image?
Just in the short time I've been blogging my body image has improved. I feel like I'm dressing with more confidence and walking with my head a little higher. I feel like I've been more put together since I've been blogging and I'm dressing with more accountability. I'm hoping the trend continues!
4. Do you photograph yourself for your blog? If so, how do you feel about the experience when you're having your picture taken? If you choose not to post pictures of yourself, what prompted that decision?
Almost all of my posts include photos of myself. I've mentioned before that I'm more comfortable when it is only my camera, tripod and myself in the room (I feel silly and self conscious when anyone else is around). There are certain pictures I look at and thing "Yup, that worked!" and other days I look at the photos and thing "Dang, did I really walk around looking like that all day?" I know that I'm not model material, I'm simply trying to show what I think works for my body and pictures are the best way to show that.
5. What would you want every person who struggles with body image to take to heart?
For anybody that has body image issues, it is important to know that being stylish isn't dependent on your size, height, length of your legs, hair color, ethnicity, or complexion. Having great style means dressing to accentuate the parts of your body you love, finding what works for you and building on it, and embracing your uniqueness!

Friend Friday - The Colors Of My Wardrobe
Today for Friend Friday, Katy at Modly Chic sent out a great group of questions dealing with how we incorporate colors in our wardrobe. Check out her site to see how other style and fashion bloggers have answered these questions. You may even get some inspiration on how to incorporate more color in to your own wardrobe!
1. What color dominates your closet?
Pink is my favorite color and you will find quite a bit in my closet - everything from pale pink to fushia. I'm also a big fan of teal or any shade darker or lighter. I also rely quite a bit on black and whites as staples in my closet.
2. If money weren't an issue how would you change the color emphasis in your closet?
3. What is your mantra about mixing colors?
I'm still fairly uncomfortable when it comes to mixing colors. I prefer a fairly neutral back ground (black, white, grey, brown) with a pop of color. I love the way it looks on many gals but I often feel like my outfit is a little overwhelming when I'm wearing multiple colors.
4. For you, how do you incorporate color into your outfits?
I try not to go beyond three colors which usually means two neutrals and one pop of color. When I'm wearing a printed scarf, I use that as inspiration and try to use colors whithin
5. Which blogger(s) do you think do a good job of incorporating color into their wardrobe?
Two women immediately came to mind: Audra from Fashion for Nerds and Kasmira from What I Wore Today. These gals are fearless and inspiring when it comes to color. While my style is very different from them, they have inpired me to not just grab black, white and brown when I'm shopping. They encourage me to step out of my safety zone and pick up a color I don't own yet!
Have a great weekend! For those of us on the West Coast, enjoy the sun! I've heard the rain is coming back!

#9 Did Just Fine

The verdict is still out on this skirt. I picked it up at the Gap for right around $5 so it was I was willing to try it out for that amount. I really like the color but the cut is a little strange on my body. The skirt will get at least one more shot during the 30x30 - with only 30 items in the mix I can't vote this guy off the island just yet. This skirt may be scrambling to form an alliance with another piece of clothing in the near future though!

#8 - To Friends I've Never Met
Items 21, 25, 27 |
Indiana and Chris at Adored Austin lost their little dachshund friend Jimi today. Indiana's upbeat and creative wardrobe keep me coming back for more initially. Then, when I started noticing pictures of Jimi and June (their two dachshunds) appearing in her blog I felt a connection. I have a wiener dog too and to own one of these guys is to have a tiny friend with a ton of quirky personality. Both of my dogs (Doby the Doxie and Jake the Wonderdog) are fairly in tune with my emotions and they were a little confused and concerned as I cried while reading the fair-well post to Jimi. I left them in today's photo because they each hold a bit of my heart and it is important for the ones you love to know that you cherish them.
Indiana, Chris, Jude and June - Just as Jimi was a special part of your life, you were all a special part of his. No words will make you feel better right now but please know that friends you've never met are holding you up in thoughts and prayers!

And Now We Arrive At # 5
Items 5, 23 |
This is what happens when you:
- have been out WAY too late (aka 2am) the night before with an incredible group of friends
- had six additional people staying at your house and a shower just didn't fit in the time frame (yes, I admit I left the house without showering)
- had to leave the house by 7:30 (did I mention I got home at 2am?)
- have to go cheer on your man playing in an annual flag football game where you will be out in the damp cold next to a river
I noticed that Molly over at Leaving the House in THIS?!? chose to include a pair of Converse Chucks to her 30 for 30. If there is a "next time" I will be including a super casual pair of shoes that I can wear in a fashionable way. Where I live and the type of weekend events I have weren't really in my consideration while I was choosing my 30 items and it bit me in the bum.
Annual Black & Blue Bowl Hangtown #43 vs. Santa Rosa #50 |
Regardless of the cheating, I had a great time at the game, wonderful time seeing friends that I don't get to see all of the time, and enjoyed the beautiful weather out at the game.
Outfit Details
Jeans: Limited
Top: Gap
Hat: a vendor at Jack Russel Brewery (gift from a friend)
Shoes: I'm too embarrassed to include

30 for 30 Update - Not Giving These Up!
This is an update on some 30 for 30 questions from friends and family and anyone else that might be interested.
I can rotate as many undergarments as I want during this challenge. You don't see my underoos in my 30 for 30 picks because I can rotate (and plan to) as many as I want during this challenge. And I'm not providing pictures because only the bums on K Street are lucky enough to catch a peek (not on purpose of course).

#1 Was Not Fun!
It started off with me staring at the 30 items, blinking, and then staring some more. The first day should be the easiest right? Not so. I’m trying to consider what I have going the rest of the week so I don’t choose something today that I really wanted to wear tomorrow. These aren’t good decisions to be making at . I should have thought this through last night.
